Info

Steve Bicknell has been at the forefront of the UK electronic music scene since its beginnings. His career, spanning over 25 years, has seen Steve grow from his early steps as a young promoter and resident DJ to become one of the UK’s most established techno artists, recognized by many as a true pioneer.

After earning respect with residencies at some of the UK’s most influential events, such as Energy (Orbital raves), the 1990 world tour of the magazine i-D, The Wag Club, Solaris, The Brain and The Zap, Steve launched his own night, LOST, together with Sheree Rashit. From its creation to the present, LOST has remained one of the defining events on the UK scene, marking the debuts of some of the most uncompromising and inventive creators of dance music. Beyond his success as a promoter, Steve also produced under the name LOST between 1990 and 1992. Subsequently, he founded his own label, Cosmic Records, also co-presiding with Rashit, thus finding a new musical direction. From this first label arose three more sub-labels: LOST Recordings, focused exclusively on the dancefloor sounds of LOST; Clubtracks, specializing in productions with a sound closer to Chicago house; and ID(entity), created to release works under hidden aliases of artists linked to the Cosmic label and to LOST nights.

As for Steve Bicknell's productions, they embody the essence of direct, uncompromising techno, traits he translates smoothly to his sets as a DJ. In looking at his early works, it is clear that, although he moved away from production in the mid-2000s, he managed to maintain the same energy and curiosity, polishing it and evolving it into something fresh and current upon his return in 2013. Equipped with neoteric ideas, in 2016 Steve launched his latest label, 6dimensions. This record label has welcomed both his own productions and those of other artists. He describes the label himself as “an exploration of balance and imbalance in the natural composition of the human mind regarding love, fear, joy, hatred, boredom and sexuality.”

Additionally, in 2017 the techno group LSD was formed with his friends Luke Slater and David Sumner. Their debut release, “Process,” came out on Ostgut Ton, described by themselves as “lysergic machine music.” Since then, the trio has performed regularly at events such as ADE, Berghain and the Dekmantel Festival, among others. In 2019, the trio returned with new releases and more performances.

With a selection of new music released throughout 2019 and his return to the dance floors, Steve remains active. Thanks to his experience in event promotion, his DJing career, and his studio work, whether solo or with friends, added to his mission of continuing to create, explore and experiment, Steve Bicknell maintains constant activity.
