On September 2, 2026, Alex Amen will perform at La Mécanique Ondulatoire in Paris. A 25-year-old Texas singer-songwriter, he first left his home state for California with the aim of pursuing cinema, before giving it all up to refocus on music. His journey took him through a community marked by the countercultural heritage of the 1960s, where he founded American Slang in 2017, followed by a more solitary interlude on an island in Puget Sound, in Washington state. From those years of isolation nourished by poetry, nature, and tinkering, Alex Amen has kept an attentive writing style and a taste for pared-down formats. Back in California, he self-produced in January 2023 his debut album, recorded in a studio he built himself at the historic Zorthian Ranch in Altadena. Now based in Los Angeles, he is part of a moving folk, Americana and country scene, balancing intimate songs with a sense of storytelling.
