Info

Mythic Armenia or celestial Armenia, André Manoukian draws on his origins and his childhood to create a fifth album where traditional music and modal jazz marry. Eastern music and classical influences run through him to bloom in Levantine arabesques. André Manoukian, a media figure, is above all a pianist and composer who loves to share his musical enthusiasms. In the studio as on stage, he enjoys provoking unexpected dialogues between the instruments, creating catchy refrains, inviting alongside him musicians of the moment. For La Sultane, his compositions are supported by the phrasing of Indian tablas played by Mosin Kawa, the double bass of Gilles Coquard, Anissa Nehar's cajon, the violins of the Orchestre Appassionato conducted by Mathieu Herzog, arranged by himself and Simon Cochard. Not forgetting the Armenian singer Arpi Alto whose velvet voice interprets two poignant lullabies. It is an invitation to travel to the Orient, between memory and music, symbols and traditions, imagined to pay tribute to his mother who called his granddaughter 'ma Sultane'.
