Formed in the late 1980s in California around Whitfield Crane and Klaus Eichstadt, Ugly Kid Joe has always walked the line between hard rock, heavy metal, alternative metal, and funk metal, with that knack for a catchy chorus and a hint of irony that defuses the pose. Revealed in the early 1990s with the EP As Ugly as They Wanna Be, the band quickly broadened its range with America’s Least Wanted, where Rob Halford also makes an appearance. What followed were Menace to Sobriety and Motel California, years of touring and big shows, before a split in 1997. Reforming in 2010, Ugly Kid Joe hit the stage and the studio again with Stairway to Hell, then Uglier Than They Used ta Be and Rad Wings of Destiny, proof that the machine is still running over the long haul: thick riffs, groove, and an alternating tension and more direct melodies. On February 14, 2027, the band will be at La Laiterie in Strasbourg with its historic core (Crane, Eichstadt, Cordell Crockett, Dave Fortman), joined by Zac Morris on drums.
