Info
On 11 February 2027, Tom Browne brings his Jazz-Funk and R&B heat to Band on the Wall in Manchester, teaming up with The Brit Funk Association for the “Funkin’ For Jamaica” tour. Born in Queens and breaking through at the end of the ’70s, Browne made his name with the GRP-era groove of Browne Sugar (1979) before landing a lasting club staple with “Funkin’ For Jamaica (N.Y.)”, still a go-to track for DJs. Expect that signature trumpet sound—clean, punchy, built for the dancefloor as much as for improvisation—alongside cuts like “Thighs High (Grip Your Hips and Move)”, “Fungi Mama”, “Let’s Dance” and more recent material such as “Impulse”. Over the years he’s crossed paths with a wide circle, from Bob James and Roy Ayers to Marcus Miller and Patti Austin, and that versatility runs through his sets.
The Brit Funk Association back him up with serious UK groove credentials. Made up of key players linked to Beggar & Co, Hi-Tension, Light of the World and Incognito, they draw from the deep Brit-funk catalogue—“Time”, “London Town”, “Somebody (Help Me Out)”, “British Hustle”—and lock it into Browne’s New York pulse for a night built around tight horns, syncopated basslines and straight-up feel-good funk.
