Bleak Squad is a four-piece indie rock band formed in Melbourne, bringing together Adalita Srsen, Mick Harvey, Mick Turner and Marty Brown. Born from sessions begun in 2019 and developed over several years, the project officially took shape in 2025 and sits within an indie rock landscape with art-rock and noir-rock overtones, featuring shared songwriting, guitars that are often taut or hushed, a restrained rhythm section, and alternating vocals between Adalita and Mick Harvey.
The members' backgrounds, including stints with Magic Dirt, Dirty Three, Mess Esque, Art of Fighting, The Birthday Party, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, or Mick Harvey's collaborations with PJ Harvey, feed into a music that favors tension, slow melody, and a moody atmosphere. In May 2025, Bleak Squad made its mark with the track "Everything Must Change", then released the singles "Lost My Head" and "Strange Love" ahead of the album Strange Love in 2025 on Poison City Records. In 2026, Bleak Squad extended this first phase with the single "Black & White", accompanied by "A Suitcase in Berlin", two tracks from the same sessions. On stage, Bleak Squad has performed in Victoria, Sydney, Melbourne, and at the Unconformity festival in Tasmania.
