Formed in the late 1980s in Isla Vista, California, around vocalist Whitfield Crane and guitarist Klaus Eichstadt, the band quickly drew attention for its direct hooks and raw energy, never taking itself too seriously. Their breakthrough arrived in the early 1990s with the EP As Ugly as They Wanna Be, propelled by 'Everything About You', before stepping up a gear with America's Least Wanted (1992). After an initial, active period lasting into the late 1990s, Ugly Kid Joe reformed in the 2010s and picked up where they left off with more recent releases such as Uglier Than They Used to Be (2015) and Rad Wings of Destiny (2022).
