Info
On 5 February 2027 Elder will perform at Melkweg in Amsterdam. The quartet, formed in 2006 in Massachusetts around singer-guitarist Nick DiSalvo, gradually shifted from stoner doom with heavy, elongated riffs to a more melodic heavy-psych in which elements of prog and psychedelia run through.
After a split with Queen Elephantine came the self-titled debut (2008) and Dead Roots Stirring (2011), on which the band’s stoner-rock side is more pronounced. With Lore (2015) the band broadened its palette: long, more tightly constructed pieces with greater dynamics. That direction is continued on Reflections of a Floating World (2017) — the year Mike Risberg joined the ranks on guitar and keyboards — and further refined on Omens (2020) and Innate Passage (2022).
Live, Elder builds layer upon layer: meandering guitar lines and warm keyboards interlock, while bass and drums propel the cadence and leave space. Tracks grow organically, shifting between hypnotic grooves and open, atmospheric passages. Expect a set drawing from Lore, Reflections of a Floating World, Omens and Innate Passage, with possible detours toward The Gold & Silver Sessions (2019) and the Kadavar collaboration Eldovar (2021).
Now based in Berlin, Elder perform as a tight-knit quartet comprising Nick DiSalvo, Jack Donovan, Mike Risberg and Georg Edert. On stage the focus is on long arcs of tension, weight and melody — unhurried but purposeful.
