Presented by JOY., Nick Hakim brings his slow-burn blend of neo-soul, psychedelic soul and dreamy R&B to Patterns in Brighton and Hove on 7 November 2026. Raised in Washington, D.C. and based in New York, he first emerged with the two-part EP Where Will We Go in 2014, then deepened his palette on Green Twins (2017) and Will This Make Me Good (2020), opening his R&B toward looser, collage-like forms. Cometa (2022) steered his writing toward airier, more organic textures, a throughline that shapes his live set: roomy arrangements, hazy keys, pliant basslines and a voice that slips from close-mic murmurs to clear falsetto.

On stage, Hakim moves between intimate ballads and more exploratory passages, revisiting early songs while stretching newer material. His ties to New York’s jazz-soul crossroads—Small Things with Roy Nathanson and Onyx Collective, and collaborations with Terence Nance, Erykah Badu, Lil Yachty and Adrianne Lenker—inform a group feel that leaves space for detail and grain. The set leans into R&B that wanders and lingers, with textures that unfold slowly and melodies that hang in the air at Patterns.
