Birds on a Wire

On February 9, 2027, at Le Quartz — Scène nationale de Brest, Birds on a Wire stops by with its voice-and-cello duo. Born from the meeting of Rosemary Standley (Moriarty) and Dom La Nena, the project weaves a repertoire of covers and reinterpretations that moves between chamber folk, French chanson, pop and early music. On stage, Rosemary’s voice coils around Dom’s cello lines, producing pared-down versions in which languages and eras answer one another effortlessly.

The concert crosses contrasting landscapes, from Barbara to The Doors, from Bronski Beat to The Cure, reaching back to the Baroque of Stefano Landi. Each piece is rearranged with precise vocal writing and an acoustic approach that favors counter-melodies, timbre and attentive listening. After Ramages and Nuées Ardentes, Birds on a Wire continues this way of travelling light: few artifices, and a strong focus on the text and the grain of the instruments. In Brest, one rediscovers that razor-sharp dialogue between two musicians who shift the boundaries between chanson, chamber music and revisited repertoire.
