Death From Above 1979 roll into Montreal with the Private Lives Tour, led by the tight bass-and-drums pairing of Jesse F. Keeler and Sebastien Grainger. On December 1, 2026 at Théâtre Beanfield, the Toronto duo keep things lean and physical: overdriven bass taking the place of guitars, kick-and-snare patterns front and center, vocals cutting through the fuzz. Formed in 2001, they carved a sharp path between noise rock and dance-punk, from the early momentum of Heads Up and You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine to the later turns of The Physical World, Outrage! Is Now and Is 4 Lovers. Live, everything revolves around pulse and texture. Octave pedals and distortion push the low end into riff territory while the drums drive and sing, flipping from punk urgency to a mechanical bounce. The set threads older staples with newer material, keeping the focus on groove, dynamics and that minimal, two-person chemistry that defines DFA 1979: direct, rhythmic, and built for movement.
