underscores lands at Gorilla, Manchester on 14 November 2026. The project of San Francisco-born producer and songwriter April Harper Grey, underscores has grown from early online dubstep experiments into a sharp pop laboratory where glitch, hyperpop, pop‑punk, emo and indie pop intersect. After a trio of DIY‑minded EPs between 2018 and 2020, Fishmonger (2021) drew a line between abrasive guitars, elastic electronic rhythms and uncluttered melodies, followed the same year by the EP Boneyard AKA Fearmonger.

With Wallsocket in 2023 on Mom + Pop, underscores pushed the writing into a more narrative space, sketching a fictional Midwest town and threading rock, folk, country and shoegaze textures through tightly arranged pop songs. The story continued in 2024 with Wallsocket (Director’s Cut), including the single My Guy (Corporate Shuffle). Beyond the solo work, April moves within a wider ecosystem, from the electronic collective Six Impala to the bedroom‑pop outfit Papaya & Friends, and the occasional alias Milkfish — a way of keeping borders between scenes and genres deliberately porous. On stage, underscores assembles these strands into a set that shifts pace and colour with ease, folding new cuts and reworked favourites into a clear, melodic throughline.
