On 12 July 2026 at the Princess Theatre, Torquay, Jools Holland leads his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra in a set shaped by boogie‑woogie piano, jump blues, swing and R&B. Co‑founder of Squeeze and long‑time bandleader, Holland pushes his piano to the forefront, flanked by a brass section and a solid rhythmic groove. Tight arrangements, call‑and‑response passages, brass‑tailored breaks and flowing choruses: the repertoire alternates originals and classics reworked in big‑band style, propelled by that left‑hand drive that carries everyone along.
Special guest Roachford joins the ensemble with his soul‑rock songs and keyboards, adding a melodic color that blends into the orchestra. Vocalists Ruby Turner, Louise Marshall and Sumudu Jayatilaka split lead duties and harmonies, ranging from gospel inflections to tight backing vocals. The whole paints a lively show, from slow blues to brisker shuffles, conceived to let the voices, brass and piano each breathe on an equal footing.
