Dance Gavin Dance play Manchester Academy on 9 September 2026, bringing their unmistakable vision of post-hardcore. Led by guitarist Will Swan and Jon Mess’s screamed vocals, the band alternates between cutting screams and clean singing, blends melodic guitars with fragmented song structures, and trades between math-rock precision and funk-inflected bounce. Since 2013 Tilian Pearson has handled the clean vocals, a stability that has accompanied a series of albums in which the band has honed its mix of progressive passages, pop choruses and left-field detours: Acceptance Speech, Instant Gratification, Mothership, Artificial Selection, Afterburner and Jackpot Juicer.
On stage, that alchemy becomes staccato grooves and sharp hooks, crafted for live dynamics. The setlist draws from across their discography, from the early days of Downtown Battle Mountain to more recent tracks, without losing the thread between rhythmic tension and catchy melody. In Manchester, it’s an opportunity to see an American outfit that moves by contrast—between nervous assaults, bright guitar lines and meticulously timed shifts of direction.
