Belle & Sebastian

Glasgow’s Belle and Sebastian bring their literate indie pop to Caird Hall, Dundee, on 20 June 2026. Formed in the mid-90s around Stuart Murdoch’s songwriting and a core of collaborators including Stevie Jackson, Chris Geddes, Richard Colburn and Sarah Martin, the band has shaped a sound where understated melodies meet chamber pop textures, with strings, brass and a folk-tinged sense of storytelling. Early albums like Tigermilk and If You’re Feeling Sinister sketched everyday characters with clarity, followed by The Boy with the Arab Strap and Fold Your Hands Child, which broadened the palette while keeping the narratives close to the ground. The 2000s brought a cleaner, more focused production on Dear Catastrophe Waitress and The Life Pursuit, then a discreet electronic current on Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance. On stage, Belle and Sebastian move between quiet vignettes and brighter pop with an easy swing, letting the songs breathe and the arrangements carry the detail, drawing from a catalogue that keeps evolving without losing its centre.
