The Hu

The HU bring their hunnu rock to The Prospect Building in Bristol on 1 October 2026. Formed in Ulaanbaatar in 2016, the Mongolian band fuse throat singing and traditional instruments with heavy, low-slung riffs and rhythms close to alternative metal. Their music stacks guttural leads and collective chants on top of tense, melodic motifs drawn from the steppe, giving weight and movement to a sound that stays raw and direct.

On stage, the group plays with contrasts: saturated guitars answer folk-inflected lines, while unison vocals drive the dynamics as much as the drums. The balance between ancestral timbres and amplified power is the core of their identity, carried by tight arrangements and an instinct for hooks that cut through the noise.

Viral tracks Yuve Yuve Yu and Wolf Totem opened the road beyond Mongolia, then the albums The Gereg (2019) and Rumble of Thunder (2022) cemented their approach. Collaborations with artists like Serj Tankian and Jacoby Shaddix broadened the edges without diluting the pulse. A live moment where Mongolian heritage meets modern metal, straight and unadorned.
