Info

On July 1, 2026, Ludovico Einaudi returns to the Théâtre Jean Deschamps in Carcassonne as part of the Carcassonne Festival. A pianist and composer trained at the Milan Conservatory and having spent time in Luciano Berio’s workshop, he has developed a pared-down compositional language in which the piano guides repeated motifs, clear harmonies and silences that let the music breathe. On stage, his programme alternates signature pieces — Le Onde, Divenire, In a Time Lapse, Elements — with more recent works such as Underwater or The Summer Portraits, sometimes supported by strings and subtle electronics.

This minimalist approach, at the intersection of contemporary classical music and a more popular sensibility, has also informed his film music. One can recognize themes associated with cinema, from The Intouchables to Nomadland and The Father, without the concert’s thread losing its unity. Einaudi works with nuance, repetition and the gradual increase of intensity, shaping smooth transitions between pieces. The result is an evening centered on playing, listening and continuity, where each sequence extends the previous one to trace a clear trajectory.
