Info

Northern Irish songwriter and producer Joshua Burnside brings his offbeat folk palette to Cyprus Avenue, Caroline Street, Cork, on May 1, 2026. Based in Belfast, he writes at the crossroads of indie folk, folktronica and indie rock, weaving in Irish and Scottish traditions with touches of Americana, discreet electronics and sound collage. His live shows tend to shift from intimate ballads to mistier textures and more insistent grooves, keeping the focus on storytelling while letting the arrangements breathe.

Burnside first drew wider attention with Ephrata in 2017, a record partly written in Colombia that folds cumbia-inflected rhythms into his songwriting and earned the Northern Ireland Music Prize. Since then, he’s expanded his catalogue with the EP All Round the Light Said (2018) and the albums Wear Bluebells in Your Hat If You’re Goin’ That Way (2019), Into the Depths of Hell (2020), Higher Places (2021) and Teeth of Time (2025). Along the way, he has appeared at The Great Escape, Other Voices, Reeperbahn and SXSW, and collaborated with Laura Quirke on the EP In the Half-Light. In Cork, expect a set that threads older pieces and recent work into warm, detailed arrangements where acoustic instruments meet subtle electronic undercurrents.
