Info
On 21 August 2026, Takuya Nakamura takes over RUST in Nørrebro with his own blend of jazz and electronic music. The Japanese-born trumpeter, keyboardist, producer and DJ shaped his voice in the United States, where he studied with George Russell at the New England Conservatory. That influence is evident in the way he links harmonic thinking, improvisation and composition with the pulse of today’s clubs.
Since settling in New York in 1994, Nakamura has moved effortlessly between jazz, jungle, broken beat and electronic scenes. He has been part of Jojo Mayer’s Nerve and CocoRosie, and he has honed his ear for sound and form through collaborations with, among others, Quincy Jones, David Byrne and Arto Lindsay. He translates that experience into a live practice that is flexible, where trumpet phrases, synth layers and programmed rhythms alternate roles and driving force.
On stage he unfolds his jazz roots over tight grooves and urban textures, with an emphasis on timing, arrangement and collective interplay. The set points to connections rather than genre labels: melodic motifs, analogue tones and digital patterns meet in a space where composition and improvisation are afforded equal room. An evening at RUST where New York’s contemporary jazz heritage is mirrored in electronic forms.
