Fat Freddy's Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop lands in Barcelona on 27 September 2026 at Sala Razzmatazz with their flexible blend of reggae and dub threaded through soul, jazz and electronic echoes. Formed in Wellington in 1999, the septet has made live performance its natural terrain: songs built in real time, deep basses, delays that ebb and flow, a horn section up front and the warm voice of Joe Dukie guiding the journey unhurriedly, from the most relaxed grooves to pulses that verge on club territory.

On stage their songs breathe and shift: keyboard lines that open space, guitars that converse with the rhythm, drums and percussion that push without sharpness. There are nods to dancehall and techno, but the backbone remains dub, crafted with patience and a keen ear. From Based on a True Story to Blackbird, the repertoire is wide and leaves room for improvisation without losing the thread of the chorus.
