Roméo & Juliette has already won over more than 11 million spectators around the world. On February 19, 2028 at 7:30 PM, the show will be presented at Reims Arena. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the production has established itself as an international classic while retaining its status as a work of French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, where it drew nearly 2.5 million attendees, the production has become a benchmark. A Proustian madeleine for an entire generation, it was embodied from the start by the duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara. Roméo & Juliette allows audiences to see the original duo reunited on stage.
For Cécilia, returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is moving. “I was chosen at 15 to play Juliet, a defining role that marked the beginning of my life as an artist. Reprising it twenty years later, alongside Damien, was a very powerful moment, as if we had never been apart but had been enriched by everything life has given us. This return has a symbolic value: coming full circle, returning to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now feed the characters in a different way. The story continues to bring people together, to convey love and emotion. It is a joy to find Juliet and the French audience again.”
In the same vein, Damien adds: “Coming back to Paris after taking Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably in Asia, carries a special resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and rediscovering it today alongside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity that time has given us, gives this journey a new depth.”
With more than 9 million records sold and songs that have become inseparable from French pop culture—such as Les Rois du monde and Aimer—Roméo & Juliette has left a lasting mark on the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years, the show has traveled across cultures and adapted to the changes of its time: new techniques, new stage codes, new audience expectations. Faithful to its DNA while renewing itself, it preserves what defines it: the songs, the aesthetic and the sense of spectacle.
For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a love story. Universal and timeless, it asks a question that is always relevant: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers it with a force that transcends centuries, and it is this emotion that we continue to share with audiences. Having the chance to reunite Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara, more than twenty years after their debuts, is a privilege. Their presence brings a new depth to the show, nourished by all the experience they have gained. Roméo & Juliette is, for me as for the company, a lifelong adventure, and we are happy to write it again together in 2027.
The announcement of Roméo & Juliette’s return is not a mere renewal. It is more than that: proof that some stories, and love above all, endure over time. In 2027, Roméo & Juliette returns in a rethought version, incorporating new generational codes while preserving the essence that has made it successful for a quarter of a century: an ageless story, universal emotions and a musical signature. This comeback comes with a new cast, new costumes and a new scenography, redesigned for today without ever touching the show’s DNA. We will not reveal everything now—the magic will be unveiled step by step.
