Info

Roméo & Juliette has already attracted more than 11 million spectators worldwide. Translated into 18 languages and performed in 20 countries, the show is a work of French musical theatre. Launched in 2001 at the Palais des Congrès, the production drew nearly 2.5 million spectators. From its inception, the duo Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara embodied the leads. Even today, Roméo & Juliette brings back its original duo on stage.

For Cécilia Cara, returning to Paris with Roméo & Juliette is moving. “I was chosen at 15 to play Juliet, a role that marked the beginning of my life as an artist. Reprising it twenty years later, alongside Damien, was a powerful moment, as if we had never been apart but had been enriched by what life has given us. This return has symbolic value: closing the circle, coming back to where it all began, with 25 years of experience that now nourish the characters in a different way. The story continues to bring people together, to convey love and emotion. It is a joy to rediscover Juliet and the French audience.”

Continuing, Damien adds: “Returning to Paris after having taken Roméo & Juliette around the world, notably to Asia, has a particular resonance. This role has accompanied me since 2001, and finding it again today alongside Cécilia, with the perspective and maturity that time has given us, gives this adventure a new depth.”

With more than 9 million records sold and songs that have become inseparable from French pop culture—such as “Les Rois du monde” and “Aimer”—Roméo & Juliette has marked the history of musical theatre. For nearly 25 years, the show has travelled across cultures and adapted to changes of its time: new technologies, new stage codes, new audience expectations. It retains what makes its identity: familiar songs, a refined aesthetic and a strong sense of spectacle.

For Gérard Presgurvic, Roméo & Juliette remains a love story. It poses a timely question: how far are we willing to go for love? Shakespeare answers it, and it is that emotion that is shared with the audience. Reuniting Damien Sargue and Cécilia Cara more than twenty years after their debuts adds depth to the production, nourished by the experience they have gained.

Roméo & Juliette returns in a reimagined version, integrating new codes while preserving its essence: a story, emotions and a musical signature. This comeback comes with a new cast, new costumes and new staging, redesigned for today.
