You don’t need to look far to grasp the tone of Cactus. By giving his new show that title, Elie Semoun sets the tone. For 30 years the comedian has made his mark on the French stage. His style, which blends subtlety and boldness, has inspired other artists. For his eighth show, Elie Semoun takes a slight turn: stand-up comedy now plays a larger role. Cactus remains faithful to his fondness for character work.
Among the gallery of his new characters you will meet Jean Abdul, who will serve as his opening act; a son who takes his father to visit a nursing home (EHPAD); Xavier, who has a motor disability and introduces his wife to his mother; a father confronted with his son’s transition; a racist karate instructor; and a take on sexual harassment and religion. With Cactus, Elie Semoun tackles themes such as intolerance, taboo and injustice.
