On 25 July 2026 Tarrus Riley will perform at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, with saxophonist Dean Fraser at his side. Riley, born in the Bronx and raised in Jamaica, moves effortlessly between roots reggae, lovers rock, rocksteady and a touch of dancehall. From Parables and Contagious to the acoustic Mecoustic and Love Situation with Fraser: his repertoire revolves around melody, harmonies and lyrics that balance social and romantic themes. That compass remains clear on recent tracks like Healing. Live, Riley places the voice at the centre, with smooth arrangements that stay close to the Jamaican tradition.
Dean Fraser, from Kingston, has been a constant presence in reggae since the late 1970s. First on clarinet and later on saxophone, he has worked across studios and stages with the We The People Band, Sly & Robbie and on recordings for, among others, Dennis Brown. His playing is melodic and fluid, at home in roots and in the digital era, and often decisive in the horn arrangements. As Riley’s musical partner, arranger and occasional producer, he gives direction and shape to the set, with lines that carry and connect the songs. Together they deliver a show that strikes the heart of the Jamaican song tradition, without detours.
