Balance & Composure

On 22 June 2026 Balance & Composure play at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. The band, from Doylestown, Pennsylvania, formed in 2007 and grew into a fixture of the American emo scene, with a sound that collides emo, post-hardcore and alternative rock. What initially relied on taut, melodic guitars gradually shifted toward darker, more expansive atmospheres, with hints of post-grunge and melodic post-punk.

After early EPs and a split with Tigers Jaw, the albums Separation (2011), The Things We Think We’re Missing (2013) and Light We Made (2016) followed, on which the approach became less direct and more atmospheric. After a hiatus the band returned with the single Too Quick to Forgive and the album With You in Spirit (2024). Live, that creates tension and contrast: brooding passages that open into wide, sweeping choruses, tight rhythms and vocals that move from restrained to fierce. Expect a set drawing on the early records as well as the recent material—no frills, just straightforward. In Utrecht that evolution comes together on stage.
