Brooklyn-based Japanese American composer, singer and guitarist Mei Semones brings her indie pop to SAW in Ottawa on June 30, 2026. Her music threads indie rock, chamber pop and jazz influences into compact songs built on supple rhythms, jazz-leaning harmonies and melodic guitar work. Switching between English and Japanese, she writes about attachment, nostalgia and life between cultures, keeping the tone direct and unforced.
On stage, Semones plays with a band that extends these ideas: a focused rhythm section, string arrangements in the mix, and occasional patterns that nod to math rock, always guided by a clear melodic line. The set leans on detail and dynamics rather than volume, letting each part breathe without losing momentum. Special guest TBA.
