Jacques & Chirac - Dans le cadre du festival Les Cogitations

On May 20, 2026, at L’Entrepôt in Le Haillan, Jacques & Chirac stages a political figure with two faces. Three actors rotate through a carousel of more than twenty characters — Bernadette, Claude, Mitterrand, Giscard, Sarkozy, Pasqua, Dassault and others — to recount a trajectory where power, falsehood and the Republic intertwine. JACQUES, the jack-of-all-trades who shakes hands, loves art, cracks jokes and cultivates local traditions; CHIRAC, the head of state who poses with dictators, navigates African affairs and ultimately confronts his shadowy past. The play alternates surprises, ruptures and sharp, taut dialogue, with an on-stage transformation technique that makes public figures emerge like masks. Between popular satire and an investigative gaze, the writing summons the spirit of television puppetry and the rigor of a thoroughly researched dossier to lift the veil on the backstage of a reign. The burlesque here serves a political subject that does not erase the tragic, linking the brief portraits to a larger story: that of a country seen through the man who long embodied it.
