Info
On April 11, 2026, at the Grand Théâtre - Scène Nationale d’Albi, OKALI opens the evening. In Cameroon, okali means “to look out for others.” The duo adopts this idea and composes without rules, guided by instinct. Their set draws a line between afro trip-hop, dub and rock, with guitars rolling like waves and voices with a strongly present grain. It’s an organic, rhythmic and melodic material conceived for live performance, where each piece moves forward by ear and feeling rather than by formula, allowing a sensitive and direct music to emerge.
Christine Salem, originally from Réunion, continues her maloya path by pushing open the doors of jazz and improvisation. Around her deep, earthy voice, she gathers an all-female quintet—musicians versed in controlled slips and open dialogue. The songs, in Creole and in the language of her ancestors, rest on a maloya foundation that the group unfolds into new textures, between trance-like pulses, oblique harmonies and open spaces. It’s a journey where Creole memories mingle with contemporary gestures, without denying the fire of maloya but rubbing it against other timbres and breaths.
