Zentone

On May 13, 2026 at Les Arcs in Quéven, Zentone brought Zenzile and High Tone together on stage, two key figures of French dub. Born in the mid-2000s, the project was conceived as a shared laboratory where the two formations layer their methods, intertwine their intuitions and build shifting sonic architectures in real time. First volume in 2006, second in 2021: the same approach spans time, founded on layered construction, the art of live mixing and a constant dialogue between musicians. In concert, it takes the form of a substance that unfolds and reshapes itself: deep basses, drums that drive the groove, sweeping synth layers that settle in, motifs that answer and morph, echoes and delays manipulated live. Zenzile contributes its sense of progression and texture, High Tone its mastery of breaks and pulses, and the whole seeks less an effect than collective motion, balancing tension with moments of breath. Zentone is neither one nor the other, but a shared space where improvisation and composition collide to give rise to a living dub with no fixed frame.
