On 9 January 2027 at Horizon Pyrénées in Muret, Roberto Alagna brings Caruso back to life in Caruso, a Voice for Eternity. At the heart of the production is the figure of Enrico Caruso and his relationship with Giulio Gatti-Casazza, the opera director of his day. Admiration becomes friendship, then becomes strained by ambition, jealousy and intrigue. The narrative traverses America’s Gilded Age—immigration, inequality, gangs and power plays—and intersects a love affair that is being built while another one falls apart.

Alagna carries this artistic and personal journey with a score that moves between styles: opera and song, blues and rock, metal and electronic, then waltzes and tarantellas. Solos, duets, trios, ensembles and choirs rely on orchestral writing to shape a continuous musical dramaturgy. The Caruso legend is cast in a different light, on a human scale: temptation, loyalty, the cost of success and the possibility of getting back up. A stage portrait that tells as much about an era as it does about a voice.
