CMAT

On 18 March 2026 CMAT will play at TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Behind that name is the Irish songwriter and singer Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson, who blends her pop sound with country, Americana and an indie edge. Since the late 2010s she has been writing sharp, melody-driven songs with winks to pop culture, in which relationships, loneliness and everyday obsessions form the common thread. Her music seeks the intersection between twangy harmonies, bright hooks and a narrative pen that can be as dry as it is personal.

With the debut album If My Wife New I’d Be Dead (2022) CMAT established a hybrid sound, somewhere between country-pop ballads and faster, more straightforward tracks. On follow-up Crazymad, For Me (2023) she builds on that with a concept centered on heartbreak and time, without letting go of the direct tone and catchy-chorus sensibility.

Live, CMAT keeps the connection close: a direct, sometimes more theatrical approach, humor and vulnerability in the banter between songs, and a set that shifts between intimate and uptempo. After shows in Ireland, the UK and across Europe, she now brings that mix to Utrecht: pop rhythms with a country tint, narrative melodies and lyrics that sharply capture everyday life.
