On Sunday, 18 October 2026, The Slackers will perform at Patronaat in Haarlem. The New York band led by vocalist/keyboardist Vic Ruggiero and saxophonist Dave Hillyard has been crafting its own mix since the early 1990s: ska and rocksteady rooted in roots reggae, supplemented by soul, rhythm & blues and a touch of garage rock. Midtempo grooves, memorable melodies and tight brass arrangements form the core of their sound.
Live, that sound comes together organically: organ and guitar lay the foundation, the rhythm section keeps it warm and laid-back, and the horns trace the hooks. The set draws on songs such as Better Late Than Never, Redlight, The Question, Wasted Days, Peculiar, The Slackers and Don’t Let The Sunlight Fool Ya; the lyrics balance between melancholy and a knowing wink. The tempo doesn’t rush but supports, leaving room for detail, swing and head‑nodding. Support acts to be announced.
