On 9 May 2026, the Sven Hammond Big Band will perform at Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. The project led by organist Sven Figee centers on the Hammond organ, driving grooves and the interplay of a large ensemble. Since the late 2000s—initially under the name Sven Hammond Soul—the band has mixed soul and funk with rock riffs and jazz inflections. Live, the rhythm section keeps the pulse tight, the horns deliver riffs and accents, and Figee makes the organ sing, growl and steer. The repertoire ranges from instrumental workouts to songs with vocals, allowing space for short improvisations and precise breaks that ramp up the energy.
For this evening, Mathijs van Nieuwkerk will also be taking part on stage alongside the band. Together they present a set that leans on groove, compact arrangements and the immediate playing pleasure of a big band with the Hammond organ at its centre.
