The Meltdown

On 28 October 2026 The Meltdown will play TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. The Melbourne band builds its sound around Simon Burke’s vocals and keyboards: soul with influences of country, gospel and rhythm & blues, slow-smouldering ballads and horn lines that colour without dominating. The groove remains compact and serviceable, with a spare rhythm section and room for melody and storytelling.

Since their first singles in the mid-2010s and the eponymous debut album from 2017, The Meltdown have delivered a mix of 60s soul, Americana accents and contemporary arrangements. On the album It’s A Long Road (2023) the group deepens that palette: melancholic, song-focused and attentive to dynamics in the details. Live, this translates into songs that build slowly, alternating between mid-tempo and slow, with warm sax and trumpet lines, concise keyboard parts and a voice that carries the material.

Don’t expect virtuosic fireworks, but carefully written pieces that breathe and linger, unfolded with small arcs of tension. In Utrecht The Meltdown will present both material from the debut and more recent tracks, in a set that explores the edge of country-soul without losing sight of the spirit of classic soul.
