Bijan Mortazavi & Hengameh

On March 15, 2026, The Centre in Vancouver hosts Bijan Mortazavi, a violinist, singer and composer whose music moves between Persian classical traditions and Iranian pop. Born in Sari in northern Iran, he trained early on the violin before moving to the UK and then the United States, where he developed a career as composer, arranger and instrumentalist within the Iranian diaspora, especially in California. His catalogue alternates instrumental releases centered on the violin and vocal productions, shaped by lyrical melodies, danceable rhythms and orchestrations that weave traditional motifs into contemporary pop forms. Albums like Bijan Mortazavi (1990), Dance of Fire (1994) and Fire on Ice (1997) define the core of his approach. On stage, he performs solo or with ensembles, keeping a close link between instrumental virtuosity and popular song, in concerts across North America, Europe and the Middle East.
