Sloan bring A Tour de Force to Toronto, a night that traces three decades of power pop and indie rock. Formed in Halifax in the early 1990s, Chris Murphy, Jay Ferguson, Patrick Pentland and Andrew Scott emerged from the Halifax pop explosion before settling in Toronto. On stage, all four write and sing, so the set moves between bright pop, sturdier guitar rock and slower mid-tempo cuts, tied together by close harmonies and melodic guitars.
The set draws from Smeared (1992) and Twice Removed (1994) through One Chord to Another (1996) and Navy Blues (1998), and reaches into later chapters like Never Hear the End of It, Commonwealth, 12 and Steady. Their catalogue reflects a collective approach, where concise tracks sit alongside longer suites and discreet nods to 60s and 70s rock.
