Paris 1925: Art Deco and Its Architects - Art Deco and Its Architects
Dive into the heart of the centenary celebrations of the International Exposition of Decorative and Industrial Arts in Paris, an emblematic event that shaped the history of architecture and the decorative arts. This exhibition unfolds across 200 m² in the contemporary architecture gallery.
Opened on 28 April 1925 between the Grand Palais and the Invalides, the International Exposition reflects the creative ferment of a postwar society in the midst of transformation. A true springboard for the Art Deco style, it highlights visionary figures such as Auguste Perret, Henri Sauvage, Le Corbusier and Robert Mallet‑Stevens. Under the direction of Charles Plumet, the bold pavilions constructed for the occasion explore new architectural, urban and decorative approaches, in close dialogue with nature.
The proposed exhibition will offer an immersive reconstruction of the 1925 Exposition, notably through a virtual model. Visitors will be able to rediscover the emblematic buildings and the creative trajectories of the major names in modern architecture, while exploring the connections between their works and the emerging notion of modernity.
By recreating the atmosphere of 1925, the exhibition will also highlight the relationship between architecture and nature, illustrated by an Art Deco garden and the era’s flagship projects. It pays tribute to a generation of architects and designers who shaped a style both innovative and timeless, laying the foundations of modern architecture.
A map will help you orient yourself and locate the pavilions mentioned in the exhibition, as if you were touring the Paris site of 1925. On its reverse side, a quirky seek‑and‑find coloring page will entertain both young and old—grab your pencils!
