Swapmeet, a quartet from South Australia, lands in Toronto on October 16, 2026 at the Monarch Tavern with its guitar-driven indie rock, somewhere between jangly pop, shoegaze and 90s alt-rock. Formed in the early 2020s around Venus O’Broin (guitar, vocals), Joshua Doherty (bass), Maxwell Elphick and Jack Medlyn (guitars, drums and vocals), the band cultivates a collective dynamic where roles circulate and where arrangements are built collaboratively.
Having been noticed after an initial series of self-released outputs, Swapmeet marked a milestone with the Oxalis EP (2024), already threaded with dreamy melodies, soft saturation and that tension between fragility and energy that is their signature. Now associated with the American label Winspear, the group moves toward a debut album and offers a glimpse with "I Know!", a nerve-wracking track with fuzzy guitars and a driving rhythm, with just the right amount of irony and cathartic momentum. On stage, their music gains density: direct, mobile rock, tailored for mounting pressure without overdoing it.
