If a certain idea of early-2000s English indie speaks to you, The Coral are bringing it back live on October 23, 2026 at the Albert Hall in Manchester. Formed in 1996 on the Wirral Peninsula, the band has carved out a distinctive place with indie rock that draws on psychedelia, acid-tinged folk and jangly pop, with that Merseybeat scent clinging to the melodies.
On stage, you’ll find that same penchant for catchy choruses and hazier detours, between the band's energy and arrangements that can veer toward lo-fi or more baroque pop depending on the track. From their beginnings marked by The Coral (2002) and Magic and Medicine (2003) to the darker turns of The Invisible Invasion (2005), then to the comeback in the 2010s-2020s with Distance Inbetween, Move Through the Dawn and Coral Island, their repertoire navigates between pop songcraft and psychedelic forays. A concert designed as a journey, with recent tracks that extend the universe established by Sea of Mirrors and Holy Joe’s Coral Island Medicine Show.
