On Saturday, August 1, 2026, old-school hip-hop comes to Heidelberg: at Metropolink’s Commissary, The Sugarhill Gang will be live on stage. The trio from the Sugar Hill Records circle pushed rap into the mainstream in the late 70s with 'Rapper’s Delight' — with these distinctive rhymes over disco, funk and soul grooves that still hit right away today. Those who celebrate the early classics will get exactly that here: real block-party energy, call-and-response, and the sound of a time when hip-hop was still raw, direct, and maximally danceable. There's also a DJ lineup that stays true to hip-hop and R&B classics: Iron and Rich Boogie provide the soundtrack outdoors, later Ben Kenobi and Derezon take over and carry the whole thing as an aftershow. An evening for everyone who prefers to start their playlist with 'back in the days' — and who still know the hooks by heart.
