Angélique Kidjo

Angélique Kidjo plays MTELUS in Montréal on February 28, 2027. Born in Ouidah and shaped by the crossroads of Benin, Paris and New York, she arrives with a band anchored in West African polyrhythms, nimble guitars and layered percussion, and a voice that moves between Fon, Yoruba, French and English. On stage she links early Afro-pop pieces and the pulse of albums like Logozo and Ayé with later explorations through soul and Afro-Latin colors from Oremi, Black Ivory Soul and Oyaya!. Djin Djin and Õÿö bring tight grooves and reworked standards; Eve opens space for choral textures and hand-clap cadences. She also reshapes material from Remain in Light and Celia, folding angular riffs and Cuban brass lines into her own cadence, before reaching Mother Nature and its dialogues with a new generation of African artists. The set centers on voice, rhythm and ensemble interplay, with room for percussion breaks, call-and-response hooks and guitar figures rooted in Benin’s traditions.
