Info
Big Country and The Alarm share the stage at O2 Academy Birmingham on 3 December 2026. Two bands born at the turn of the 80s, each with a distinct way of pushing guitar-driven rock forward.
Formed in Dunfermline in 1981, Big Country shaped a sound where bright, interlaced guitars nod to pipes and Scottish folk without losing their bite. From The Crossing and Steeltown through The Seer and Peace in Our Time, their songs balance urgency and melody, then open onto more direct rock and roots shades in the 90s and beyond. On stage today, the group around Bruce Watson keeps that tension alive, between rugged riffs and wide, singable lines.
From Rhyl, The Alarm also started in 1981, fusing punk impulse with new wave dynamics and acoustic-electric swings. Early singles like The Stand, Sixty Eight Guns and Spirit of ’76 set the tone, followed by albums Declaration, Strength and Eye of the Hurricane, and a steady run of releases into the 2000s and 2010s. Tight rhythms, ringing guitars and direct choruses remain their trademark.
A double bill that links post-punk roots to durable songwriting, spanning staples and newer cuts.
