From the punch of My Aim Is True and This Year’s Model to the melodic turns of Imperial Bedroom, Costello’s catalogue moves easily between hooky rockers and slow-burn ballads. With The Imposters locking in tight, he can jump from barbed riffs to soul or country inflections drawn from decades of collaborations, film scores and detours beyond rock. The result is a show where deep cuts resurface next to songs you know by heart, arranged with a live energy that keeps everything in motion.
Texan guitarist and singer Charlie Sexton adds grain and finesse to the mix. Raised in Austin’s blues circuit, cofounder of Arc Angels and long-time foil to Bob Dylan, he brings clean lines, slide shadings and a measured bite that lifts choruses without crowding them. A studio-seasoned player with a songwriter’s ear, Sexton meshes naturally with Costello’s shifting moods, giving the set extra color and momentum.
