The Head and the Heart stop in Vancouver on 9 July 2026 at the Orpheum for the 15th Anniversary Tour. Formed in Seattle in 2009 by songwriters Josiah Johnson and Jonathan Russell and joined by Charity Rose Thielen, Chris Zasche, Kenny Hensley and Tyler Williams, the band built its sound on close harmonies, piano lines and acoustic guitars. From the self-titled debut reissued by Sub Pop in 2011 to Let’s Be Still (2013), then the more pop-driven Signs of Light (2016) and Living Mirage (2019), up to Every Shade of Blue (2022), their catalogue moves between indie folk, americana touches and contemporary pop textures. This anniversary show looks back across those releases, keeping the vocals and keyboards at the core.
Opening, Michael Marcagi comes from Cincinnati with a songwriter’s approach that blends folk rock, americana and acoustic pop. His writing leans on everyday scenes, family ties and the pull between staying and leaving home. After signing with Warner Records, he released Scared to Start in 2023 and the EP American Romance in 2024, marked by clear melodies and stripped-back arrangements. On stage, he keeps it direct, guitar and voice up front, setting the tone before the headliner.
