UMI

UMI, an American singer-songwriter, makes music a space for healing and connection. Born in Seattle into a multicultural family, she began in high school by posting covers and acoustic songs on SoundCloud, building a loyal community that encouraged her to leave university and create full time. Her signature blends R&B, neo-soul and folk, with spare songwriting, clear melodies and a careful attention to words. She willingly describes herself as a sonic healer, embracing a practice in which voice, breath and silence matter as much as production.

Her new album, people stories, opens an intimate chapter. Inspired by loved ones, fans, strangers and her own detours, the record explores ego, healing, identity and connection. Spoken interludes from her therapist punctuate the narrative, and sonic imperfections are left intact as an ode to the living. Between organic textures and pop touches, UMI weaves songs that invite listeners to recentre without shutting themselves off from the world.
