Info
Orchestra Baobab stands, like few other bands, for the Dakar sound that has connected dance floors and record collections since the early 1970s: Afro-Cuban rhythms meet Wolof-Griot traditions, Mbalax influences, Congolese rumba, and a jazz patina, carried by intertwined guitars, warm horn lines, and multilingual vocals. On March 15, 2027, the collective will come to Knust in Hamburg and bring exactly this mix to the stage—seasoned, but never museum-like.
Also in the lineup is new material: “Made in Senegal,” the first studio album since “Tribute To Ndiouga Dieng” (2017). Recorded entirely in Dakar, it continues the band’s long history and shifts the focus to homeland, tradition, love, and resilience. Live, that means: large-band energy, elegant arrangements, and songs that sound at once like a nightclub and like West Africa, without being pigeonholed.
