Info
On November 6, 2026, at the Théâtre de Saint-Quentin en Yvelines – Scène Nationale in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, Erik Truffaz and Antonio Lizana take on Miles Davis’s Sketches of Spain with New Sketches of Spain: a reinterpretation that does not merely replay a classic but shifts its perspective. On one side, Erik Truffaz’s trumpet, renowned for its sense of silence, its pared-down phrasing, and its taste for modern textures; on the other, Antonio Lizana’s saxophone and voice, rooted in cante and Andalusian rhythms, with this approach to cohabiting flamenco tradition and improvisation. Led by a septet, the project plays on the balance between writing and freedom, between jazz and flamenco, and seeks in the Spanish roots of the 1960 work a living, open material ready to transform. On stage, flamenco dancer Ana Pérez adds a physical dimension to the concert: a direct dialogue with the pulsation, the breaths, and the nuances of the arrangements.
