Praying Mantis

Praying Mantis is an established melodic hard rock band. They were formed in 1974 in Great Britain by brothers Tino Troy and Chris Troy and were among the groups associated with the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal). Their debut album Time Tells No Lies from 1981 was positively received by critics.

The English band Praying Mantis belonged to the more melodic bands to emerge from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal scene. They combined a twin-guitar approach in the style of Thin Lizzy with Def Leppard-like vocal harmonies, resulting in a sound not unlike Rainbow in its later years. On their 1981 debut album Time Tells No Lies followed Throwing Shapes (1984), Predator in Disguise (1991) and Forever in Time (1998) as well as further albums. From 2013 the lineup stabilized with albums such as Legacy (2015) or their most recent album Defiance (2024).

In 2026 the band will celebrate the 45th anniversary of Time Tells No Lies at the Zauberberg in Passau with concerts in which they perform their debut album in full.

Music has always played a central role in his life, prompting him to pick up the guitar and develop a style that blends melodic precision with rapid shredding. Over the years he refined his skills under the guidance of guitarists such as Kieran McAuliffe, Mrs. Smith and Jacky Vincent.

He has performed in over 25 countries and has played at festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Rock Fest Wisconsin and the Alcatraz Metal Festival.
