Info

Le Botanique, with five emblematic formations, celebrates a central pillar of Belgian underground culture: the Sub Rosa label. In 1996, we released on CD the recordings of four standout evenings that took place in New York, Paris, London and Bari. These archives recalled the spirit that has animated Sub Rosa since its early publications: that of a laboratory where archives and ongoing research mingle, noise and silence, heritage and avant-garde, in the folds and rhizomes of time. Time, precisely, has never been a determining factor in our approach. Predictability even less so. We move cautiously between inherited paths and ones yet to be invented, redistributing the cards disc by disc, year after year, trial after trial. We embrace this identity made more of questions about matter than of assertions, of sometimes improbable connections rather than clearly defined territories. This evening at Le Botanique reactivates this intention: to continue the work across different musical currents, to bring together artists who share a long history with Sub Rosa and others whose paths have crossed ours more recently. Not to draw a balance sheet, not to celebrate a finished history, but to set things in motion again. Everything starts anew with Blutchings (Daniel Denis, Michel Delville, Antoine Guenet), a new trio at the fringes of avant-jazz and prog, which will present on stage its first album. Followed by Ogives, gathered on stage for the occasion, with new arrangements of La Mémoire des orages, an album produced by Steve Albini. Bow will finally present the 3-CD box set that will be released for the occasion by Sub Rosa. In keeping with the 1996 tour, this evening will close with live performances by David Shea and Scanner. A meeting is not out of the question.
