Info
Bodega are a New York-based art rock band, born in 2016 from the ashes of the trickster collective Bodega Bay (active from 2013 to 2016). The group's leaders and principal songwriters, Ben Hozie and Nikki Belfiglio, are also multidisciplinary artists: Ben is a filmmaker (creator of PVT Chat, with Julia Fox and Peter Vack), while Nikki is a visual artist who curates all graphic aspects of the band's publications, including the creation of an aquarium filled with artisanal miniatures for their upcoming album, All Inside Aquarium, due for release on October 9 on Chrysalis Records. Known for their unpredictable live performances, in which they never repeat the same setlist twice, Bodega write lyrics of philosophical and literary mould, aimed at probing the hidden influences that guide everyday thought and behavior. Their mantra is that the best critique is self-criticism, and their songs often address, with a razor-sharp wit, the hypocrisies and contradictions—philosophical as well as political—in which they themselves are implicated. The new album, All Inside Aquarium, draws inspiration from late 1980s and early 1990s sounds, particularly evoking The Stone Roses and Jane's Addiction.
